FIELD: chemistry of high molecular compounds, more particularly highly thermostable and high-strength polymeric materials used in various fields of engineering and technology. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing poly-(N- phenylimino)carbophenyleneoxides of general formula I: wherein R,R1 ,n are as defined in claim 1, by polycondensation of diphenyloxide. Original reactants include N-pheniliminochlorides of aromatic dicarboxilic acids of formula: with bisphenols of formula: HO-R1 -OH wherein R1 is defined in claim 1, in amide solvents in inert gas current at 0-160 C for 13-15 hours. EFFECT: wider range of polyphenylene oxides of complicated structure, improved physico-mechanical characteristics and cheaper materials based thereon. 1 ex, 2 tbl.
