FIELD: organic chemistry, medicine, pharmacy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry of biologically active polymers and preparing the sustained-release antibacterial preparations. Invention describes the novel complex of 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2- -methyl-5-nitroimidazole with polyvinylpyrrolidone of the formula (I) where n = 81-539 (molecular mass is 9000- -60000 Da). Obtained complex shows the broad spectrum of antibacterial effect and can be used in suppurative surgery, gynecology, maxillofacial surgery and other branches of medicine as a drug.
