FIELD: high-temperature catalytic conversion of ammonia by means of double-stage catalytic system; manufacture of nitric and hydrocyanic acids and hydroxylamine sulfate. SUBSTANCE: method consists in passing reaction gas mixture containing ammonia and oxygen-containing gas through double-stage catalytic system whose first stage (in way of gas flow) is made in form of platinoid screens and second stage of catalytic system in form of layers of regular honeycomb structure catalyst separated in space; each separate layer of catalyst of honeycomb structure is located at distance lesser than 60 mm from adjacent layer which is approximately 0.5 to 1 thickness of wall of passage. Gastight inert material is placed between layers of catalyst of honeycomb structure. EFFECT: increased output of target product; increased service life of first-stage catalyst. 10 cl, 4 ex.
