FIELD: oxidation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst contains at least one platinum group metal and/or metal oxide active ingredient (0.005-1.0% as metal) on fibrous silica and/or alumina carrier and promoter: at least one component selected from group including sodium, potassium, rubidium, cesium, calcium, magnesium, barium, boron, titanium, zirconium, vanadium and/or their oxides (0.005-0.9% on conversion to metal). Filaments of fiberglass carrier are 1 to 20 mcm in diameter. More particularly, carrier is made from silicate material with 55 to 99.9% silicon dioxide and specific surface 0.1 to 200 sq.m/g.
