FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: face seal is designed for friction pairs of face seals. Face seal has friction pair consisting of rotating and stationary members contacting each other with face surfaces, one of which contains sections of different wear resistance. These sections represent system of concentric circular sections (grooves) alternating in radial direction and characterized by higher and lower hardness. Sections of higher-hardness material are essentially sections of face surface hardened or alloyed and obtained by means of laser radiation. EFFECT: prolonged service life of seal. 3 cl ,1 dwg
